HERO: 9 TO 5 – DISPOSABLE HEROES – PRE-ORDER NOW!

Hero 9 to 5 Disposable Heroes CoverHero: 9 to 5 – Disposable Heroes, the third book in Ian Sharman and David Gray’s hit Hero: 9 to 5 series from Markosia, is available to pre-order now!

The book returns once more to a world where being a super hero is just another nine to five job!

When Frostica flies into a jealous rage after Flame-O and Pink Girl are caught kissing on live TV, the government gives in to pressure from religious fundamentalists to ban super hero agencies. All hell breaks loose as villains reign supreme across the UK. Nobody is safe in this mad rampage, not the Houses of Parliament and not even the Queen herself!

Flipworlds Page 001a“When we started working on this book nobody had ever heard the word Brexit,” comments writer Ian Sharman, “the only referendum mentioned in the original plot outline was the Scottish independence referendum. However, making a book as inherently political as Hero: 9 to 5 over the last four years it inevitably became about Brexit, just everything else has in the UK.”

That said, Hero: 9 to 5 – Disposable Heroes doesn’t just take a satirical swipe at British politics, it also takes on celebrity culture, evangelical Christianity and the monarchy, while of course still sending up the absurdities of mainstream super hero comics. So, join Messrs. Sharman and Gray as they go on an iconoclastic rampage across the cornerstones of British culture, while being sure to trample the daisies along the way!

Flipworlds Page 001aOh, and did we mention that it’s funny?

Written by Ian Sharman and illustrated by David Gray, with colours by Partrik Mock, the series is already available in single issues digitally on DriveThruComics and ComiXology, and the collected print edition of Hero: 9 to 5 – Disposable Heroes will be released on October 28th 2019 and is available to pre-order now from Amazon, Book Depository, Wordery, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones and many other quality book sellers:

“Ahead of its time, this existential masterpiece is the ultimate Brexit allegory, but more importantly it’s a side-splittingly glorious read.” – Annika Eade

About the Authors:

Hero 9 to 5 #11 Page 012Ian Sharman is probably best known as the award-winning writer of Alpha Gods, Hero: 9 to 5, Hypergirl, The Intergalactic Adventures of Zakk Ridley, The Lady & The Lost World and the webcomic, Spacescape, and as the editor of and contributor to the Eagle Award nominated anthology, Eleventh Hour. Ian is also an accomplished inker, having inked Spider-Man, Iron Man and the X-Men for Panini Comics, and also a successful letterer, having lettered many comics including the Doctor Who graphic novels from BBC Books, the acclaimed Apollo graphic novel from Self Made Hero and the AX Collection of underground manga published by Top Shelf. He’s also Editor in Chief of Markosia, one of the leading independent publishers of graphic novels in the UK, and he runs Orang Utan Comics, a UK based collective of comic book creators. On top of all this he’s also the producer and one of the stars of Ray Gunn & Starburst, a sci-fi/comedy audio drama which is currently available for free on iTunes. Oh, and he also released a collection of flash fiction and poetry called Words On A Wall. He’s a busy chap.

Hero 9 to 5 #12 Page 001aDavid Gray is definitely best known for being a drummer, recording artist, lyricist and international touring musician for metal bands Akercocke, Voices, The Antichrist Imperium, My Dying Bride and The Berzerker. He has illustrated every Hero: 9 to 5 comic since issue one, numerous underground fanzines, several unpublished graphic novels and drawn and designed dozens of CD, vinyl & cassette album covers, T-shirts, posters and tattoos. When he is not drawing superheroes whilst watching Doctor Who or playing drums in studios or at heavy metal festivals then he is occupied with the noble art of funeral directing in his day job. He is currently working on Justice Monkey with Ian Sharman.

Patrik Mock is a freelance graphic designer living in Berlin with his dachshund hybrid Mamush. He started colouring comics with Nightingale and the Finch for Dub Comics in 2015 followed by two issues of Worst Day Ever from Luke Stone Studios. On his first assignment for Markosia he coloured issues three to five of No Romance. After that he took over the colours for Alpha Gods: Revelation and the Hero: 9 to 5 story arc Disposable Heroes. He is currently working on other Markosia projects. Right now, he is probably walking the dog.
